Honestly, if you had asked me or my mom growing up what my future career would end up being it’s doubtful it would have been computer related at all. We didn’t even have a computer at home until I was in high school, most of the “tech” I was introduced to was only at school, and even then it was rare. Wow, how things have changed! A couple of weeks ago we were doing a major purge at my office, we found typewriter written notes, original “while you were out” notes and so much more that reminded us just how far we have truly come in just our office! Can you imagine where tech, and what the job sector will be like when our children are older?

Fact is, most jobs available as our children grow are going to be tech based. At some point, they’ll need basic (if not more!) knowledge to give the kids the edge in an increasingly international and multicultural future workforce. I never thought I would be a digital influencer myself, I never thought I would be referred to as a social media influencer.. but here we are, where will YOUR children be in the future?

Nowadays almost everything can be automated. From paying our bills with our online banking, to ordering our groceries, and even running an e-commerce store. As our children grow, so many jobs will become obsolete – yet so many new and exciting doors will be opening, just check out some of these interesting job descriptions, an Organics Voltaics Engineer, Purchase Prediction Analyst and my personal favourite – Robot Counsellor.

Now’s the perfect time to teach our children how to make technology work for them, to give them a much needed launch into the careers of the future.

Come and join us on April 7th for a twitter chat about just that, the CST Learning Project competition funds new learning activities for children with $250,000 in prizing up for grabs. It’s part of their Inspired Minds program that includes Careers 2030, a look inside the possible careers our kids will have, and how we can prepare them early.
