27th Annual Honda Celebration of Light returns + why we LOVE the #YVR Observation Deck! #Events

Honda Celebration of Light

There’s no denying that summer is in full swing in Metro Vancouver right now, with temperatures staying in the 20’s most days, it’s been beach days all around! It’s hard to believe it’s already nearly the end of July and that one of our favourite events is about to light up the sky for 3 days only.

When I was younger.. much younger, it was a lot of fun to head down to the Celebration of Light early in the day to snag your spot, set up a picnic, lay out and get your tan on. Now, as a mom.. the thought of spending 12 hours in the sun with hundreds of thousands of people crowding around activates my flight response pretty quickly. As much as I love the fireworks, we needed an alternative and thankfully last year we were introduced to the YVR Observation Deck for the Honda Celebration of Light!

The YVR Observation deck is designed for people like me, who want to enjoy the fireworks without needing to rush down well in advance and worry about finding a spot. We don’t live in Vancouver so it’s quite the trip down and back again and we much prefer to have a bit more control over our timeline. Beat the crowds, set your own schedule and enjoy the unobstructed views and fun to be had at the Honda Celebration of Light’s ever-popular YVR Observation Deck at English Bay.

Make the most of your reserved seat to go explore the festival, then take advantage of YVR Observation Deck amenities like dedicated washroom facilities, easy access to food trucks and a cash bar. Once the fireworks start, you’ll have one of the best spots overlooking the beach and no trouble hearing the musical soundtrack simulcast for a truly immersive experience. For families who have young children, an alcohol-free zone is available by request.

Opening each night at 6:30 PM, no matter what time you settle in, your spots will be reserved in bleacher-style seating. With unobstructed views looking directly at the fireworks barge, you won’t miss a single moment of the action. You also won’t have to worry about losing your spot, trying to find it again in the dark or navigating the crowds for much needed (and likely at the worst times) bathroom breaks.

The Honda Celebration of Light attracts up to 400,000 spectators along English Bay each evening. Owned and planned by the volunteer, not for profit Vancouver Fireworks Festival Society, 2017 represents the 27th consecutive year of the event – and each year is bigger and better than the last. The Celebration Of Light is recognized as the longest running off-shore fireworks festival in the world and has hosted dozens of countries from around the world – all to bring you the best performances! 2017 brings something new, with each competitor designing their program to an iconic Canadian song – The three songs will commemorate classic Canadian music content including the Tragically Hip, Bryan Adams, and Leonard Cohen. You won’t want to miss this!

With an incredible festival line-up featuring Japan, the United Kingdom and home team Canada, limited tickets remain. With seats beginning at $49 for each evening, bring your family to join in the spectacular energy of BC’s largest live event.
