2016 Vancouver Toy Run Information
Who’s thinking about Christmas in September? I know I am! Especially after receiving this wonderful flyer in my email! We look forward to the Vancouver Motorcycle Toy Run each year – especially since it runs right through our neighborhood.
The Vancouver Motorcycle Toy Run is returning for it’s 37th annual parade of motorcycles – all riding to raise donations of both money and gifts for the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau. This event is the largest of it’s kind with previous years having seen participation of between 3000-5000 people, and 2000-4000 motorcycles! That’s a lot of bikes, and a lot of dedicated bike clubs coming out to help the kids. We can’t wait to join them!
Want to check out the bikes? The toy run will start at Coquitlam Center at 9:30am on October 4th and travel through Port Moody down Barnet Highway, down Hastings Street in Burnaby, and finally ending in Vancouver at the PNE. It’s free to watch the toy run but they will graciously accept gifts of unwrapped (though wrapped in plastic) children’s toys to donate on your behalf to the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau. The Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau kindly requests more active and educational toys if possible. Please be mindful that pre-teen/teens are the hardest gift requests to fill and any donations to help with this are greatly appreciated.
So grab your toys and head down to one of the manned barricades to drop off your new-unwrapped toy or cash donation and make a difference this Christmas season! As if watching the bikes isn’t fun enough, many riders dress up and toss treats as well. Stand along the parade route and cheer them on!
If you happen to live in one of the areas with the Vancouver Motorcycle Toy Run running through your neighborhood, check with your local council for detours and closure information.
