{ Premier Protein Vanilla shakes will be available at Costco stores across Canada until April 3, 2016}
There are two things I really like – convenience and Costco. Combine these two things together and I am pretty much in my glory. As a busy mom, I so appreciate when I am able to find everything I need all in one store, and even more so when I am able to get things that help me reach my dietery needs, when I’m not very good at doing it myself.
Last year was a major rough patch for me, I had a major surgery and ended up with a 2 week long “flu” that never seemed to get any better. I was barely able to keep food down during both instances and I was starting to feel it. Weakness, light headed, inability to focus. My surgeon and my family doctor both told me the same thing – if I feel like I am unable to eat, to at least try to get down a protein drink. So, they have become a little bit of a staple in my house as my lack of gallbladder is making it difficult to hammer out a diet that doesn’t leave me feeling sick.
Since I already shop at Costco at least twice a week, I was pretty excited to discover that they are carrying Premier Protein Drinks, in the past I’ve been known to have a stock of chocolate on hand so when they offered to let me test out the vanilla flavour – available for the first time in Canada – I was on board!
As aforementioned, I’m no stranger to protein drinks so I grabbed another brand I had leftover in my cupboard and compared Premier Protein with a competitors brand. To say I am surprised would probably be an understatement!
Premier Protein boasts 24 essential vitamins and minerals, 160 calories per serving, low fat, gluten free and only 1g of sugar. The kicker? 30 grams of protein in one shake. You will get more calories from protein in this shake than sugar which is a total win for me.
Competitors brand? They boast 28 essential vitamins and minerals and 240 calories per serving, but only offer 15g of protein and they won’t even list how many grams of sugar are in one serving, even though it is the SECOND ingredient listed! After doing a bit of research I discovered that there is between 18-30g of sugar per bottle depending on flavour. No. Thank. You!
Now, admittedly I am a chocolate fan normally. I’ve tried Vanilla flavours in the past and found them to taste a bit watered down and chalky so I was really hoping this one would surpass my expectations. I have had 3 so far, and the fact I keep going back for more clearly shows I love them! They have a certain amount of sweetness without being overly sweet, just enough to satisfy a sweet tooth and absolutely zero chalky taste. I also really appreciated the screw-top cap, even when it’s a breakfast on the go I don’t seem to always get a chance to finish a drink at once!
At Premier Protein®, they believe that good nutrition is the fuel for a happy, healthy life. They know it’s hard to get lean protein in our everyday busy lives. That’s why they’ve make their delicious protein shakes – to make powerful, healthy choices easy! They are packed with protein without all the sugar, calories, and fat* (*more calories from protein than sugar), to give you the energy you need every day. They are ideal for breakfast on the go, an afternoon snack, or a post workout boost.

Wow… 30 grams of protein – that’s impressive! more than 3 times what you’d get in a glass of milk.
