Metropolis at Metrotown is a glorious shopping centre in South Burnaby boasting 400+ stores, a movie theatre, and easy access by any means of transit. You can find everything you need and want here from big chain stores to boutique like stores and loads of different food vendors to try. But Metropolis at Metrotown is not only known for its size, but for the periodic installations they do in the spacious Grand Court. You may remember the animatronic dinosaurs, or perhaps their Animal Grossology exhibit, both of which were big hits with my kids. Well this year, to celebrate the International Year of Light, Metropolis at Metrotown will have a unique new interactive art exhibit titled “Lightroom”
The “Lightroom” is a 60 second walk through experience that will immerse participants in an illusion of thousands of twinkling lights, and with ties to social media, makes for a great contest too! Shoppers who upload photos of their experience to Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #METlightroom will be entered in a draw for a chance to win VIP tickets to the Celebration of Light fireworks show, a $1000 shopping spree, or weekly gift card prizes.
We strive to provide customers with a fun experience when they come to the shopping centre and the Lightroom is just that. It’s unique, memorable and something that customers of all ages will be able to interact with and enjoy. – Judy Black, Marketing Director at Metropolis at Metrotown
In addition to the 25 feet x 35 feet Lightroom, a stunning 70 foot interactive light curtain will be on display over the Grand Court elevators. This installation, sure to dazzle, was inspired by artist Yayoi Kusama’s mirrored infinity room and the Social Soul experience at the 2014 TED Conference. The event itself will be staffed by Burnaby Neighbourhood House, a volunteer driven non-profit who are giving their services in exchange for a $10,000 donation from the Metropolis at Metrotown Community Investment Fund.
