Vancouver Bach Choir presents the divine harmonies, resounding orchestrations and sublime arias of Handel’s Messiah on December 12th and The Orpheum accompanied by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and celebrated Canadian soloists.
Handel’s Messiah was first premiered in Dublin, Ireland in 1742 at a time when printed Bibles were rare, and much of the population was unable to read. Wanting to bring the Bible to those who were unable to access it, Messiah’s text is taken entirely from the Bible and tells the life story of Jesus Christ. Beginning with the virgin birth, Handel’s Messiah follows Christ’s life events up to his death and concludes with the resurrection. What began as an Easter concert has become a celebrated traditional holiday concert. It’s famed Hallelujah Chorus is recognized and loved the world over.
