Creating for Conservation with The Vancouver Zoo + #Giveaway!

Greater Vancouver Zoo Creating for Conservation

There’s two things I seriously love in this world – supporting local iniatives that are near and dear to me and encouraging children to learn, engage and use their imaginations. You have the best of BOTH worlds coming up at the Greater Vancouver Zoo this month, and it sounds like it’s going to be something you won’t want to miss. The Greater Vancouver Zoo is bringing together animal conservation and LEGO in a unique event that is sure to bring out even the master builders! This event is a great chance to have fun while learning about the importance of loving our environment and those animals around us. You can learn more about how YOU can help with these efforts anytime at the Zoo, how will you encourage your family to make a positive change?

To help raise awareness about animal conservation initiatives, the Greater Vancouver Zoo is asking kids, kids at heart or anyone who loves building to create a LEGO sculpture on the theme of animal conservation.. The sculptures will be on display for everyone to enjoy and will be judged by a panel for exciting prizes! You read that right, you could win some pretty fun prizes for building something super fun with LEGO!

“This event will help by providing more awareness for the programs we are involved with, but ultimately we hope to encourage appreciation of the environment and motivate our guests to get more involved with any form of conservation efforts,” says Marketing and Communication Manager, Jody Henderson. The Greater Vancouver Zoo is involved in local conservation initiatives along with field “Locally we are involved with three native endangered species breeding programs (Oregon Spotted Frog, Western Painted Turtles and Taylor’s Checkerspot Butterflies) where we release the captive breed species back into protected wild locations,” says Henderson.

As for the field work, the Zoo is involved with the Iranian Cheetah Project, Guatemalan Yellow Naped Amazon Parrot and Indian Hornbill Nest Adoption Program. This is all supported by generous contributions from the public.

We always have so much fun at the Vancouver Zoo, we definitely encourage you to make a day of your trip out! Pack some snacks, rent a Quadra-cycle, ride the train and immerse yourself in the 120 acres of park land with plenty of space for the kids to run, explore and learn about the animals around them. If it’s warm, definitely stop by the little spray area for a cool down. It might have been the best way to end our day, as you can tell by the giant smiles on the littles faces!
